Sandip Saha: Invasion in the Himalayas

    Sandip Saha

    Invasion in the Himalayas

Once there was lush green forest
around the Matt in the Himalayas
    tranquility, solemnness and peace
were the central theme of the place

gradually like an army of ants
    they invaded it, became crowded
hotels, houses on every square inch
    inundated annihilating the environment

edifices were built on soft soil
    the load became unbearable
    cracks developed in buildings
they ran away for life or died

government wakes up from deep slumber
    demolishes all vulnerable structures
sends all inhabitants to temporary sheds
    spends money for their rehabilitation.

Human civilization is a breeding ground
of all vices of the creation, produces offspring
unhindered, cannot control all pervading lust
first creates problems then runs for solutions

politicians hardly act for population control
lest they lose the vote bank for election
the godmen also do the same
otherwise, where will they get fool followers?

Every year the rivers from the mountain
    are destroying the cities, villages
the house of the prime minister is not invincible
the capital of India is drowned under Yamuna.

Erosion in Himalayas is synonymous to destruction
firefighting actions are of little use
    forgetting foreign trips serially
ministers must delve for environment preservation.
